Fireflies, hit single dari penyanyi yang bernada synthpop dan elektro ini memang catchy banget dan langsung merajai radio-radio. Meskipun mulai banyak yang suka (bahkan gosipnya salah satu promotor besar di Indonesia, berniat buat mendatangkan penyanyi ini), ada sebagian orang di beberapa forum di internet, yang mengira lagu tersebut adalah singel terbaru dari Postal Service, duo bentukan Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie) dan Jimmy Tamborello.

Postal Service memang sudah nggak eksis lagi sejak album perdana dan terakhirnya di tahun 2003, Give Up. Makanya, saat lagu-lagu Adam yang memang sealiran dengan mereka, keluar di internet, banyak yang mengira kalau Postal Service bangkit lagi. Adam Young yang berada di balik proyek solo Owl City ini pun dicap sebagai tukang jiplak. Waduh...!

Yang lucu, kesuksesan yang diraihnya ini terjadi tanpa disengaja. Dulu, Adam sempat jadi karyawan minuman Coca Cola selama dua tahun. Setiap pulang kerja, bukannya istirahat ia malah sibuk mengutak-ngatik musik. Yup! Adam memang punya kebiasaan susah tidur alias insomnia. Namun, lama-lama kebiasaan ini malah jadi hobinya. Sampai-sampai ia kerepotan sendiri saat tahu sudah waktunya ia harus bekerja lagi. “I remember being at home in the middle of a song, looking at the clock and realizing I had to be at work in 5 minutes,” kenangnya.

Sukses bikin lagu, ia iseng menaruh karyanya di MySpace. Nggak disangka, tanggapan yang diterimanya positif banget. Ia pun melanjutkan dengan menyebar musiknya di iTunes. Sampai akhirnya, ia direkrut Universal Music. “Aku langsung loncat dengan papan skate di  ruang tamuku waktu tahu aku direkrut major label," terangnya gembira.

Namun, walaupun sudah terkenal, ia tetap berlaku seperti biasa. Bahkan bisa dibilang, dia masih pemalu! Di konser pun ia masih malu-malu. “I hated the idea of touring because I hated the idea of ‘acting’ or, in a sense, pretending to be anything other than who I really was.” (Lilin Rosa Santi)
